On May 11th the Ohlao Walking Football Team welcomed some 40 walking footballers from Manchester, Ohlao, Lagos, Vilamoura and Lagos to a fun-filled day of action at Olhao’s Jose Arcanjo Stadium.

Walking football for the over 50s is becoming internationally accepted as a major contributor to keeping the more mature members of society fit and healthy. It was, therefore, appropriate that the Algarve Health & Social Care group should sponsor the event and also provide expert first-aid cover during the day’s play.

Even with regular heavy downpours, the 15 games were successfully completed. The Olhao A team continued their winning form with maximum points, whilst Manchester City were runners up, with Olhao B in third place.

As Man City player Tom Brett said:” Despite the weather, the warm welcome we received has certainly made up for the lack of sun which, perversely, has been shining back home whilst we’ve been getting soaked!”
